"When I was told that the theme came from Charles Burchfield's painting collection "the Romance of Urban Decay" and that he lived in Buffalo I knew the city would be my inspiration. I took myself around buffalo, took pictures, and realized how much beautiful architecture there was in this city. Some of it was badly decaying. But, you can see the beauty that it once was and the craftsmanship that was put into it. The gargoyles and statues really effected my collection. I took the idea of feathers from the wings of the gargoyles and the statue of Nike in Frank Lloyd Wright's Darwin D. Martin house. The color pallet I chose was simple because of the mood of the economic recession. Buffalo has been feeling economic hardship a lot longer then steel mills and factories have been moved or shut down taking many jobs long before this recession ever started. I'm inspired by my surroundings and I like to find beauty where most might not see it." - Tiffany Landon |

| "My collection is based on the theme of romance of urban decay as you know. Firstly, I wanted to express the decay part by a black linen fabric, and express the romance part by a white silk. Secondly, I used colorful yarns as seven colors of rainbow because I wanted to express that rainbow color as an ideal that will connect the decay and romance, and that will change form the decay to the romance. In addition, I also wanted to express the rainbow accent as nature, so I made the tree motif on garments and used a gradient tool for puting a rainbow color to the dog motif in photoshop for concept board. It's because nature is opposite to artificial urban. However, I wanted human to coexist with nature, so I used romantic rainbow color as accent connection. Thirdly, I placed the colorful yarns to heart part of most of garmants because I assumed urban part is physically and nature (ideal) part is mentally. In summary, my collection style is simple basically but there is also the humor accent". - Ti Zhou |
