Introduction
The following websites
were selected to guide students in locating various resources related
to problem solving. Each site includes challenging word problems,
strategies for solving problems, solutions, and/or games. Problem
solving can be difficult for both students and teachers; these sites
will help alleviate the frustration felt by everyone.

Word Problems -
Dr. Math explains problem solving skills by using 'age' as a
theme. Students learn how to solve word problems by expressing
information using variables.
- Math
Stories - This
site uses various stories and authors to enhance critical thinking
skills. The word problems are based on children's favorite
literature. Other features include magic with numbers and thematic
word problems

Medieval Adventure in Problem Solving - A site designed by fourth
graders for sharpening problem solving strategies, exploring
multiple step problems, choosing a calculation, deciding when to
estimate, using information from a chart, and sharing your own
word problem.
- Word
Problems for Kids (Canadian School) - This site provides grade
appropriate word problems for students in grades 5-12. A hints
link is available to assist with challenging problems and answers
are easily accessible

Math's Strategies for Problem Solving - Having trouble solving a word
problem? Don't know where to begin? This site offers a variety of
approaches for tackling those word problems.
- Math
Mastery - This
site has 'daily brain' activities on a variety of topics. Key
links, such as, problem solving strategies, answer key, and
solutions to a problem are provided to help students feel success
when practicing problem solving skills. 'Bonus problems' are an
added reinforcement for students.

Puzzle Corner -
This site is developed by AIMS (Activities Integrated Math and
Science). This site includes a variety of interesting puzzles that
can be used to create a learning environment where students are
engaged in doing mathematics.
- Interactive
Mathematics -
Students learn problem solving techniques through the use of
interactive games and puzzles. Students can choose from fifty (50)
different games and puzzles just by clicking on their
favorites.
- International
Math Challenge
- At this site students can participate in the Math Challenge.
Students have eight problems to solve each month and must e-mail
their results and reasoning. Points are awarded for each solution
and their standings are posted internationally.
