Solution to PS 4 #6
a) Demerol interacts with complex I, preventing electron transfer
from NADH to Q. The levels of NADH increase because NADH is not being
reoxidized to NAD+ and the levels of Q increase because the
quinone is not being reduced to QH2.
b) Myxothiazole inhibits electron trasfer from QH2 to cytochrome
c1 and from QH2 to cytochrome b566 in
Complex III. The oxidized forms of both cytochrome predominate since
Fe3+ can not be reduced by electrons from QH2.
