Solution to PS 1 #7
The lack of proof reading ability in RNA polymerase makes the error
rate of transcription greater than the error rate of replication.
However, the defective RNA molecules produced are not likely to effect
cell viability because most copies of the RNA synthesized from a given
gene are normal. In the case of a defective mRNA, the number of defective
proteins is only a small percentage of the total number of proteins synthesized.
Also mistakes made during transcription are quickly eliminated since most
RNA molecles are short-lived.
